Maddy Cusack died unexpectedly on Wednesday at the age of 27. Her club Sheffield United confirmed this on its website on Thursday evening.

Sheffield CEO Stephen Bettis expressed dismay in a statement. “This is heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane. Maddy had the unique opportunity to be involved in several Sheffield United teams and was well-liked by everyone she came into contact with.”
“Her personality and professionalism made her an asset to her family – we will miss her dearly. “The club will offer as much support as possible to Maddy’s family, friends and colleagues as we process the news and move forward,” continued Bettis.
Cusack has played in Sheffield since 2018 and played over 100 games for the club. She was also active in marketing for the club, according to the statement.
