Al-Fateh University, Mitsubishi to Jointly Study Green Energy
02/02/2009 13:10:00
Mitsubishi Corp. on Wednesday will sign a memorandum of understanding to begin joint R&D of reusable energy sources with Libya's Al Fateh University.

Under the agreement, the Japanese trading company will support research into reusable energy by Libya's largest university, supplying test materials and sending specialists to Al Fateh from 2009 to 2011.

The first initiative between the two will involve field-tests of solar power generation systems at the university.

One of the world's leading oil-producing countries, Libya is also working to develop green energy and is an ideal place for producing solar power because it receives hours of intense sunlight each day.

The plan is for the university to accumulate technology and expertise, then cultivate leaders for the new industry.

While other research fields have yet to be identified, wind power is expected to be included because of the strong gusts that buffet the country's coastal region.

Mitsubishi is looking to broaden trade channels with Africa outside of the oil business, while Libya is seeking technology from advanced countries to help nurture next-generation industries. (Nikkei)
